Why leave Cannes 30 minutes away for the best catamaran excursion on the French Riviera?

Cannes has everything—luxury hotels, the Croisette, sandy beaches. What it doesn't have is the Estérel. This volcanic massif, with its blood-red rocks, its inlets inaccessible by road, its turquoise waters classified as a Natura 2000 site—all this begins a 20-minute boat trip from Fréjus. And Fréjus is a 30-minute drive from Cannes.

In other words: you can sleep in Cannes, enjoy the Croisette in the evening, and spend your morning in secluded coves that 99% of tourists on the French Riviera will never see. That's the real French Riviera—the one they don't show in the brochures.

Destinations

Cannes does offer boat trips—mainly to the Lérins Islands and the Gulf of Juan. These are pleasant destinations, but they don't rival what Fréjus offers.

The Estérel begins in Fréjus

The Esterel Massif—a Natura 2000 protected area, with its red rhyolite rocks and secluded coves—stretches between Fréjus in the east and Théoule-sur-Mer in the west. From Cannes, you have to travel the entire length of the coast to reach it. From Fréjus, you can get there in 20 minutes by boat. This is a fundamental difference: more time spent in the coves, less time spent traveling.

Two directions of navigation

From Fréjus, our catamaran can sail in both directions: east (Estérel, Lérins Islands, Cannes coast) and west (Cap Taillat, Gulf of Saint-Tropez). No other sailing center in Cannes offers this geographical freedom. In 8 hours, we can reach Cap Taillat to the west and return via the Estérel coves to the east.

Maximum 22 passengers — the choice of a small group

Catamaran trips departing from Cannes often accommodate 40 to 80 people. At Catamaran Fréjus, the rule is unwavering: a maximum of 22 passengers. This isn't a regulatory constraint—it's a deliberate choice. Because the French Riviera deserves better than an overcrowded shuttle.

An eco-friendly catamaran trip

  • We favour sailing and limit the use of engines to reduce noise and polluting emissions that could affect wildlife and flora.

  • We reduce plastic consumption , which is one of the main causes of marine pollution, by simply removing it from our excursions.

  • We sort and recycle our waste.

  • Sailing offers a peaceful and moderate-speed exploration that has less impact on marine ecosystems.

An incredible catamaran experience in Fréjus!
We chose the trip to the Calanques of the Estérel and it was simply magical. Small group, friendly atmosphere, fantastic crew. Everything is included so zero stress, we enjoyed ourselves 100%. Special mention for swimming in a turquoise cove… A true dream! I highly recommend it.

The best memory of our holiday on the French Riviera
We chartered the catamaran for a hen party and everything was perfect. The organization was seamless, the crew professional and incredibly friendly. Drinks, music, sunset… everything came together for an unforgettable experience. It's nothing like the crowded boats; here you can truly relax and enjoy the atmosphere. We'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Frequently Asked Questions – Catamaran Excursion from Cannes

1) Does the catamaran depart from Cannes or from Fréjus?

Our catamaran departs from the port of Fréjus (62 quai d'Agrippa, 83600 Fréjus), located 30-35 minutes by car from Cannes via the A8. You can also reach Fréjus by train from Cannes in 20 minutes (TER, Marseille-Ventimiglia line) or by bus (Varlib line 3003, Port Fréjus stop).

2) Is it better to start an excursion from Cannes or from Fréjus?

To visit the Calanques of the Estérel—one of the most spectacular natural sites on the French Riviera—Fréjus is by far the best starting point. From Cannes, you have to drive along the entire coastline to reach the Estérel. From Fréjus, you can be there in 20 minutes by boat. The 30-minute drive is more than compensated for by the time saved at sea.

3) What outings do you recommend for a visitor based in Cannes?

Our top recommendation: the Calanques de l'Estérel half-day excursion (3 hours, departing at 9 am). You leave Cannes at 8:30 am, board the boat at 9 am, and return to Cannes around 1 pm—leaving you the afternoon free to enjoy the Croisette. For a full day, the 3 Caps Day trip (8 hours) takes you to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez—a unique experience from the French Riviera.

4) Can the catamaran be chartered from Cannes for a hen party or birthday?

Absolutely. We offer private charters of the catamaran for all types of events: hen parties, stag parties, birthdays, corporate seminars. Prices start from €1,050 all-inclusive for 12 people (skipper, fuel, aperitifs, and nautical equipment). Charters are available from Fréjus, 30 minutes from Cannes. Contact us for a personalized quote.

5) Are there catamaran excursions directly from Cannes?

Boat trips depart from Cannes, mainly to the Lérins Islands and the Gulf of Juan. They are pleasant, but don't offer access to the wild coves of the Esterel Massif. For this unique experience—red coves, turquoise waters, and a small group of no more than 22 people—departing from Fréjus is essential. And Fréjus is only 30 minutes from Cannes.

6) Do you need to book well in advance to come from Cannes?

During peak season (July-August), we recommend booking 3 to 5 weeks in advance, especially for morning outings and weekends. In May, June, and September, booking 1 to 2 weeks in advance is generally sufficient. Online booking is available 7 days a week on our website. Contact us for a personalized quote and customized arrangements.
